Is Organic Cotton Better for Baby Skin?

Does it make a difference to buy organic certified tee-shirts for your child? Learn about the danger of some commonly used substances with Luc Bolvin, founder of the French brand Little Bazou.
Optiderma: Luc, what made you decide to start your own brand of
organic cotton tee-shirts?
Luc Bolvin: In fact, I bought so many tee-shirts made in China where they didn’t care about working conditions or materials that were used for dyeing fabric for example. I didn’t feel good about it at all, and I felt I was ignoring things that were essential.
Optiderma: That’s why the idea came up to produce organic cotton tee-shirts made in Portugal and France to have a better control of quality and working conditions?
Luc Bolvin: Yes, that’s right. We often had to get rid of products where I used to work because we suspected allergenic substances for example. This is so bad, isn’t it ? Especially when it’s about a baby or a child.
Optiderma: Is there a real danger?
Luc Bolvin: No, I don’t mean an immediate danger, but a long term impact is possible. It is the case for formaldehydes or phtalates that are suspected to be carcinogen (cancer-causing substance). They are often found in printing on fabric. There are also lots of allergies in babies and children, whose skin is more sensitive.
Optiderma: As I understand it, Little Bazou tee-shirts does not contain these kinds of substances.
Of course ! I make sure each step of manufacturing, from fabric to dye meets strict ecological norms. Our cotton comes from Ecological Farming, our dyes are certified by Oxotex, and the norm GOTS guarantees that working conditions are respected. Prints are certified without phtalates and noxious substances. Working with Portugal and France also contributes to the economy of these countries.
Optiderma: Very interesting. Thank You Luc. Here is the URL for those who are interested: www.little-bazou.fr
About Luc BolvinLuc Bolvin is the founder of Little Bazou, a French brand of organic tee-shirts for children. He is also a father of three girls and did a world tour with one of them in 2005 !
French versionOptiderma: Bonjour Luc !
Cela me gênait énormément j’avais
Optiderma : Tu as alors eu l’idée de fabriquer tes propres
Luc Bolvin: Bien entendu !
